CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal has filled his candidacy for prime ministerial election at the parliament secretariat on Wednesday afternoon as Nepali Congress central committee voted in favor of parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel.

Khanal´s candidacy was proposed by Bhim Acharya and seconded by Ram Chandra Jha. "We will still try for national government," Khanal said after filing his candidacy.

Nepali Congress Central Committee on Wednesday voted for parliamentary party leader Ram Chandra Poudel as the prime ministerial candidate. "Poudel was proposed by chairman Sushil Koirala, and the committee selected him based on majority votes," Bimalendra Nidhi said after the meeting.

Leaders close to senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba had advocated for re-thinking of the candidate at the meeting held at the party’s central office."This is continuity of NC´s(Nepal congress) earlier decision," Poudel said.

Just before the beginning of the meeting, president Sushil Koirala, parliamentary party leader Ram Chandar Poudel and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba held a meeting. Poudel failed to get the majority in 16 rounds of PM election in parliament. The nomination for PM election is set for Wednesday. UCPN (Maoist) and CPN-UML announced their chairmen Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Jhalanath Khanal respectively as their PM candidate on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary party meeting of CPN-UML on Wednesday morning issued a whip to all lawmakers to vote for Khanal in the PM election slated for Thursday.
